Taught My 1st Group Fitness Class & It Was Fun!
Group Fitness & What I Think About It
I've been into health for the longest time since 2002, when I was turning 15, and I was just the "Waterboy" on the hockey team. Since then, I've encountered fitness in many different sports and forms including but not limited to:
- Canoeing
- Soccer
- Dancing
- Exercising At Gyms
- Yoga
- Stretching
- Running
- Hiking
- Cycling
- Swimming
- Bodyweight Exercise
- Kickboxing
- Playing Drums Professionally (and getting a degree with 4 long years of drumming almost daily)
I even sold health products at the start of my working life in 2008, and more recently in 2019, did Sales of Gym Memberships at the largest gym in Singapore (by floor size), True Fitness at Millenia Walk.
I've experienced Group Classes at my Arts College when I was there and the head of our performing arts foundation programme, Harris Jahim, used to teach Yoga first thing in the morning, at True Fitness by trying out their different classes to learn more about them to sell them better, and even at Virgin Active at Marina One as a client, when I was renting an office there.
All these group classes had 1 instructor, who might or might not sometimes walk around to help you.
In my experience, the only teachers who walked around were the yoga teachers I experienced at Virgin Active at Marina One.
I like to be properly technical when I exercise or teach others so I'm happy that in this group class, both my fellow trainer Jag and I walk around and the attendees get a 1-on-1 personalised experience as we correct their posture and impart knowledge in an in-depth way.
We're both very passionate about the topic, so that becomes very easy and natural for us as well. A win-win for everyone.
Stage Fright
I did feel slightly anxious before the first class, but when I centre myself in my knowledge on this subject, it immediately goes away and becomes really more of a "home" thing for me, where I feel right at home, and almost as though exercise is a way of life for me, because it is. So when attendees come to the class, it feels like they are entering my home, and not like I'm in someplace strange.
That makes everything super easy-going and friendly. I do have 22 years in this field... so... I tend to enjoy speaking and teaching about exercise, stretching and everything in between.
My Key Takeaways
Exercise is for everyone, and it is really a humbling vocation to be helping people fix their different issues.
Everyone is at a different level, and both patience and intelligence is required when negotiating different characters.
I had one client who would make paragraphs of excuses after every 3 repetitions of a simple exercise, which was quite frankly irritating and negative to the progress of everyone else, but it brought out the counsellor and life coach in me (I used to see clients privately) and that was interesting.
Helping people learn about their bodies makes the world a better place, truly.
I am blessed to be able to work in a field like this, and I frankly didn't know where all those hours of gym sessions and years of training was going to go (not that it has to go anywhere but I'm just saying), but this is one way they're being put to good use, by benefitting others. So like Steve Jobs said, you can only connect the dots, looking backward.

Zephyr
I started experiencing miracles in my life (proof after you click the image below), which could not be dismissed as coincidence.
You can learn how to connect with your Spirit Guides, Spirit Guardians, Guardian Angels, Ancestors, Spirit Animals and More! It's a short 33-minute lesson, split into shorter bite-sized chapters, and you can implement it in your life immediately, in any situation, even if you're a beginner to Spirituality. If you're already a Spiritual Practitioner of any kind, this incantation can laser-focus the guidance you receive for your clients, from their own Guides (and no other random entities). Check it out and the sensational results I've achieved... here:![]()
