Steps Tracking Week 6: Viral Fever, Missed Target and Recalibrating the Goal

health & fitness
Weekly steps tracker screenshot for Week 6 showing near 8,000 daily average despite viral fever and travel recovery.

I was coming off a viral fever and trying to catch up to steps that I had missed the previous week on holiday. I didn’t manage to do too much during the viral fever itself, but I stayed as consistent as I realistically could.

Week 6: What the Numbers Look Like

  • Thursday: 12,584

  • Friday: 10,506

  • Saturday: 6.050

  • Sunday: 6,931

  • Monday: 6,230

  • Tuesday: 4,858

  • Wednesday: 7,127

That brings the 7-day average to 7,755 steps per day, which is 245 steps short of my 8,000 daily average goal.

Close — but technically not there. Then again, these weren't steps all day, these were only the steps when I was carrying my phone around. The week after this one, week 7, I started wearing a watch to track as many more as I could as well.

Balancing Health With Real Life

This week made me pause.

An average of 8,000 steps a day started as an arbitrary number. A clean target. A measurable benchmark. But life isn’t just step counts.

There’s content creation. Running that content creation as a business. Being a husband and a father. Managing home admin. Being a son and a brother. Managing online communities. Recovery from illness.

It can all get a bit much.

Sometimes it comes down to planning and executing things down to the hours, minutes, and even seconds. Discipline matters — but so does realism.

When Missing the Target Teaches You Something

Missing by 245 steps isn’t failure. It’s feedback.

It forces the question:
Is the goal serving my health and wellness — or is the goal becoming another stress metric?

Health is the priority. Not ego. Not streaks.

If 8,000 makes sense long-term, I’ll keep it.
If it needs adjusting to align with family, work, and actual recovery, I’ll adjust it.

That’s discipline too.

I personally use Vivobarefoot. I started with Vivobarefoot, and I’m still using them today.

Here’s a 15–20% discount (the company keeps varying between these two amounts depending on the season and their current policies, so you should receive a discount of one of these amounts).

If you’re curious, check them out — and remember to transition slowly and listen to your body.
You can explore my videos about my barefoot journey, including tips and tricks on transitions and what to watch out for, in the playlist linked below the article.
