This is going to sound a little controversial... but on a planet, or rather among a species, where massive change is needed to evolve, anything that takes you in a direction you're not used to going in is going to sound controversial.

If you're obsessed about something... even if it may be bringing you "positive" results, have you considered the fact that that could be an urge to reach somewhere, or feel fulfilment, which basically... isn't getting met?

Why did Michael Jordan have to become the "best in the world"? According to Jordan, Leroy Smith was the boy who made the Varsity team when Jordan didn't. There's a speech up on YouTube stating this and I quote, "He started the whole process for me." Paraphrased and shortened: "I wanted to prove to Leroy, to myself and the Coach... wanted to make sure the coach understood that he made a mistake dude." Jordan wanted to prove something. And he says so in the speech.

Why do we chase things and accomplish things to the level of obsession. There are various reasons.

None of which is peace. Or tranquility. Or being. It's all a chase for something.

Why do I Blog and make so many YouTube videos and keep releasing music? It's a chase. To where? To making a living. ... Various reasons... we all have them.

Do note, that this is not the same as "doing something well." 

Are you obsessed with the way you put a spoon inside your mouth during dinner? No. Why? Because you're great at it already, have nothing to prove, and have grown yourself to date, so obviously... the way the spoon is putting the food in... seems to be working.

Does a fit person who's had a great body for years keep talking about fitness daily? No. I certainly don't. Why? It's old news, I've made my peace with it, and now it's just something I do. As basic for me as taking a shower. I have nothing left to prove to anyone including myself in the body department. As a teenager I did. I'm now 36. Nothing left to prove. Just enjoying new progress and the freedom that comes with it as I continually keep learning about my body.

But if there's something else in your life you're obsessed about and can't stop talking about and it encroaches into other activities and relationships in your day... no matter how "benevolent" or "good" you may consider it to be (or convince yourself and others that it is).

There IS some unfinished business in there. Find the root of it, and heal it.

Being obsessed in only one area to the point of exhaustion and disharmony... is not skilled behaviour as far as a positively evolving species is concerned.

If of course, you're intense and obsessed WHILE focussing on a task, and there is a balanced and peaceful place for it in your day/life, then that's different. You might very well be on the way to mastery in that area.

There's a fine line between unhealthy obsession and a mission on fire inside a healthy human being. Know which one is occurring, and try not to confuse the two.
